Badilisha EcoVillage

Promoting permaculture design and ethics on Lake Victoria

There are many ways aside from donating by which you can get involved with Badilisha!

Are you interested in exploring Kenya and Eastern Africa? If so why not combine your vacation with some volunteering and come visit us on Rusinga Island? We welcome nature lovers and people persons alike to come and contribute towards our community initiatives. Experience our unique culture and form new friendships while helping to restore our land and improve our community. We organize accommodations for you with local host families at a cost of 10 dollars a day per person. Both short term and long term volunteers of all skill sets are welcome, though we do prefer at least a few days notice prior to arrival.

Alternatively, we welcome volunteers who can help us remotely with fundraising, grant writing, web development, or by creating international connections and partnerships which will help us realize our goals.

Twinning is an equal exchange program that links students here on Rusinga Islands with others around the world. Students at participating schools share information about their surroundings, values, and lifestyles by writing letters (or emails), talking on Skype, sharing photos, art, etc. Teachers can integrate these activities into the classroom and guide them to fit their curriculum. Twinning provides students with a personal glimpse into the lives and customs of another culture that can foster global cooperation and multiculturalism. Schools on Rusinga Island are very enthusiastic about initiating and nurturing these partnerships and we at Badilisha are always open to facilitate these connections.
